Climate Resilience & Sustainable Agriculture
Program details
Summary
Project Summary
Project | Climate Smart Agriculture Program |
Description | A farmer training and field support program introducing climate-smart techniques to smallholder farmers in drought-prone and flood-affected areas. Farmers learn improved planting methods, soil conservation, diversified cropping, and post-harvest management. The program has consistently delivered improved yields even in below-average rainfall seasons. |
Location | Southern and East Africa |
Program Area | Climate Resilience & Sustainable Agriculture |
Status | Active |
Project | Green Communities Initiative |
Description | A community-led reforestation and environmental conservation program. Communities receive training in tree planting, forest management, and environmental protection. The program is designed with an integrated livelihoods component — participants develop seedling production skills that generate income while simultaneously restoring degraded environments. |
Location | Multiple Countries |
Program Area | Climate Action & Environment |

The Challenge
Climate change is not a future threat for African communities, it is a present and worsening reality. Erratic rainfall, prolonged droughts, flooding, soil degradation, and rising temperatures are already destroying livelihoods and threatening food security. The cruelest irony is that the communities least responsible for causing climate change are bearing the greatest cost of it.
Our Response
We work with farming communities, local governments, and environmental organisations to build resilience, improve agricultural productivity, protect natural ecosystems, and reduce vulnerability to climate shocks. Our climate-smart approaches combine traditional agricultural knowledge with modern science to develop solutions that are practical, affordable, and effective for smallholder farmers.
Key Focus Areas
- Climate-Smart Farming Techniques — water-efficient, soil-healthy, productivity-boosting methods
- Agroforestry — combining trees with crops to improve yields and protect soil and water
- Reforestation & Conservation — restoring degraded land and protecting biodiversity
- Water Resource Management — irrigation systems, rainwater harvesting, and water conservation
- Disaster Risk Reduction — preparing communities to withstand and recover from climate shocks
- Renewable Energy Access — solar and clean energy solutions for rural and off-grid communities
- Food Security Programs — ensuring households have enough nutritious food throughout the year
Featured Initiatives
- Climate Smart Agriculture Program — farmer training across Southern and East Africa
- Green Communities Initiative — community-led reforestation and conservation
- Sustainable Water Management Projects — irrigation and rainwater harvesting systems
- Community Climate Resilience Planning — helping communities build their own adaptation strategies
