Our Story

One Continent. Shared Challenges. Collective Solutions.

Africa is not a problem to be solved. It is a continent of extraordinary resilience, creativity, and untapped potential. In every community we have worked in, we have found people who are already working hard to build better lives, often with very little support. What they need is not charity. What they need is partnership, resources, and the space to lead.

One Africa Foundation was established to be that partner. We were founded on the conviction that sustainable development, development that actually lasts, must be rooted in local communities, led by local voices, and built on local knowledge.

Since our founding, we have grown from a small initiative into a multi-country organisation operating across 25 African nations. We have implemented over 321 projects spanning education, health, livelihoods, climate resilience, governance, and research. We have reached more than 280 communities. And through it all, we have remained committed to the same principle that guided our beginning: communities know their challenges best. Our role is to walk alongside them, not in front of them.

How We Work

Community Led Development

Our programs are not designed in offices and delivered to communities. They are designed with communities, refined through listening, and owned by the people they serve.

Step 1: We Listen

Before designing any program, we spend time in communities understanding local priorities, challenges, histories, and aspirations. We consult women, youth, elders, local leaders, and government representatives. Every community is different, and we treat them that way.

Step 2: We Co-Design

We never arrive with a pre-built solution. We work with communities and local partners to design interventions that fit their specific context, available resources, and long-term goals.

Step 3: We Collaborate

We partner with governments, civil society organisations, academic institutions, development agencies, and the private sector. Our programs are delivered through networks, not in isolation.

Step 4: We Build Capacity

We invest in people and systems, not just activities. Our goal is that communities, organisations, and institutions are stronger after our programs than they were before we arrived.

Step 5: We Measure

We use data, research, and structured evaluation to track progress, identify what is working, and adapt where needed. Impact without evidence is just activity.

Step 6: We Share & Scale

We document what works and share findings publicly. Successful models are adapted and scaled to reach more communities across the continent.
